Why we know this works!
We love the Lotus Kit because as OTPs, we know switch access is one of those "small" daily tasks that quietly erodes independence when fine motor control changes. Flipping on a light shouldn't demand the same precision as buttoning a shirt, but for clients with arthritis, hemiplegia, or reduced grip strength, a standard switch plate can turn a two-second task into a frustrating — and sometimes unsafe — struggle. The Lotus Ring enlarges the activation target so a switch can be flipped with a fist, wrist, or forearm instead of fingertips, shifting the task from fine motor to gross motor, which is exactly the kind of compensatory strategy we build into home programs every day. Because it installs directly over the existing switch plate with no tools and no permanent modification, it's an easy environmental adaptation to recommend for rentals, aging-in-place setups, or any transitional living situation.
OTPs recommend this because it removes a fine-motor barrier from a task performed dozens of times a day, cutting down on hand fatigue and lowering fall risk from fumbling for a switch in low light or the dark.
Especially important for stroke survivors with hemiplegia or one-sided weakness, clients with Parkinson's tremors or MS-related coordination changes, and SCI users relying on a fist or forearm for switch access.
If you need the largest possible activation target for significant motor impairment or low vision, choose Size 14 instead of a smaller ring — when in doubt, sizing up almost always makes activation easier, not harder.
