Why we know this works!
Why we know this works!
We love this countdown timer because as occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) we see more meltdowns over time to stop than almost anything else in family routines. Do timers really make transitions easier? Yes, because a timer makes time visible and neutral: the large, easy-to-read display shows exactly how much play is left, the loud alarm delivers the news so the parent does not have to be the bad guy, and the magnetic back keeps it on the fridge where everyone can see it.
It is especially helpful for children with ADHD or autism, and for anyone with time blindness around homework, screen time, or morning routines. The alarm is loud, so for sound-sensitive kids or children who cannot yet read numbers, the Time Timer Original 8 inch shows remaining time as a shrinking colored disk instead.
