Why we know this works!

We love this chair pad alarm because as occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) we watch clients pop up from a chair the moment a caregiver steps into the kitchen, and that is exactly when falls happen. How does a chair alarm actually work? A thin sensor pad sits on the seat of the chair or wheelchair, and when your loved one's weight lifts off the pad the unit sounds an 85 or 100 decibel tone so you can get there before they take a step. It has a simple on/off switch, a low battery light, and the 9V battery is included. It is especially valuable for people with dementia, poor balance, or a history of falls who forget to wait for help before standing. The alarm sounds right at the chair, which can startle someone with dementia; if a loud tone causes distress, the Pressure Mat Alarm with Chime offers a gentler chime setting instead.
