Control Your Lights & TV Without Leaving Your Seat — or Reaching the Switch

The Add-On Lotus Ring is a wearable infrared (IR) remote control worn on your finger that lets you operate wall switches and TVs with a simple point-and-click gesture. If reaching a light switch is difficult, painful, or impossible — due to arthritis, stroke, MS, Parkinson’s, limited mobility, or fatigue — this ring puts control back in your hand without requiring you to get up, reach, or grip anything.

This is an add-on ring for use with the Lotus Kit system. The Lotus Kit (sold separately) includes the switch covers that receive the IR signal from this ring.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Add-On Lotus Ring and how does it work?

The Add-On Lotus Ring is a wearable infrared (IR) remote control worn on your finger. It uses point-and-click functionality to send an IR signal to compatible Lotus switch covers and TVs, allowing you to turn lights on or off and control your TV without physically pressing a switch or button. You simply point your finger at the switch or TV and click the ring to activate it. It is designed for people who have difficulty reaching, gripping, or pressing standard controls due to arthritis, stroke, MS, Parkinson’s, limited range of motion, or other conditions.

What is the difference between the Add-On Lotus Ring and the Lotus Kit?

The Lotus Kit includes physical switch covers and a ring that enlarges the activation target of your existing wall switch — it is a tactile, non-electronic adaptation for people who can press a switch but need a larger target. The Add-On Lotus Ring is an electronic wearable IR remote that lets you control switches and TVs from a distance without touching the switch at all. The two products work together as part of the Lotus system: the Lotus Kit switch covers receive the IR signal from the Add-On Ring. If you need remote control capability in addition to the enlarged switch target, you need both products.

Can I use the Add-On Lotus Ring if I have arthritis?

Yes — the Add-On Lotus Ring is particularly well-suited for people with arthritis because it eliminates the need to reach, grip, or press a wall switch entirely. The point-and-click gesture requires minimal finger force and can be performed from a seated position. For people with rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis affecting the hands, wrists, or shoulders, being able to control lights and TV from wherever you are sitting can significantly reduce pain and effort associated with routine daily tasks.

Is the Lotus Ring useful after a stroke?

Yes — stroke survivors with hemiplegia or limited arm reach on one side can use the Add-On Lotus Ring on their unaffected hand to control lights and TV without needing to reach across the body or get up from a chair. It is especially useful during the recovery period when energy conservation is important and unnecessary movement should be minimized. Occupational therapists often recommend environmental control devices like this as part of home modification planning for stroke recovery.

Does the Lotus Ring work for people in wheelchairs?

Yes — the Add-On Lotus Ring is an excellent environmental control solution for wheelchair users who cannot easily reach wall-mounted switches. Because it operates via infrared from across the room, it removes the need to maneuver close to a switch or ask for assistance with basic tasks like turning lights on or off. It supports greater independence in the home and can reduce caregiver burden for routine environmental control tasks.

How long does the battery last?

The Add-On Lotus Ring is designed with an extra-long battery life for everyday use. Specific battery life will vary based on frequency of use. Because the ring is worn throughout the day, the extended battery life is an important design feature — you should not need to charge or replace the battery frequently during normal daily use.

Is the Lotus Ring water-resistant?

Yes — the Add-On Lotus Ring features a water-resistant design, making it suitable for everyday wear including in the kitchen or bathroom where moisture exposure is common. This is an important practical feature for a wearable device that is intended to be worn throughout the day.

What size Lotus Ring should I order?

Choose the size that fits comfortably on your index or middle finger — whichever you use most naturally for pointing. The ring should be snug enough to stay in place during use but comfortable enough for all-day wear. Available sizes are 8, 10, 12, and 14. If you are between sizes, size up for comfort. An occupational therapist can help you determine the best fit and wearing strategy based on your specific hand function and dexterity.

Why we know this works!

We love the Add-On Lotus Ring because as OTPs, we're always looking for ways to conserve energy and reduce unnecessary energy expenditure for clients whose reach, mobility, or endurance is limited. Getting up to flip a switch sounds trivial until you factor in joint pain, fatigue, or the real fall risk of pushing off a recliner or wheelchair one more time than necessary. This ring lets a client aim and click from wherever they're already seated, turning a full-body task — stand, reach, walk, return — into a small point-and-click gesture from the hand. Because it's worn rather than carried, it solves the "where did I put the remote" problem entirely, which matters a lot for clients with memory changes, visual impairment, or reduced processing speed layered on top of a physical diagnosis. OTPs recommend this because it eliminates a transfer, not just a reach, which directly reduces fall risk and energy expenditure for clients managing fatigue, pain, or limited endurance across a full day of activity. Especially important for wheelchair users, clients with limited shoulder or arm range of motion, and stroke survivors with one-sided weakness who can't reliably reach a wall-mounted switch. If you need standalone switch access without pairing to another device, choose the Lotus Kit's switch covers instead — this ring only works as an add-on that requires the Lotus Kit already installed on the switch it's controlling.
