Panelists:

Dr. Brandy Archie, OTD, OTR/L, CLIPP- is the founder of AskSAMIE and OT Connected, platforms designed to make getting to the right adaptive equipment and resources easier for caregivers and occupational therapists alike. With a deep belief in tech-powered care and community-driven practice, she’s helping OTPs across the country grow their impact—and their income—without doing it all alone.

Alexander Theodorou (MSc) is the Founder & CEO of Neurofit, a Techstars-backed digital health platform that equips occupational therapists with engaging, evidence-informed cognitive rehabilitation and real-time outcomes tracking. A TEDx speaker inspired by his father's stroke and graduate research in brain injury, he partners with clinics, universities, and insurers to translate neuroscience into practice; Neurofit has been recognized twice as a top company to watch for improving adherence, documentation efficiency, and neuroplasticity-driven outcomes.

Evidence Based Rationale:

This professional development activity is grounded in current evidence supporting neuroplasticity-driven rehabilitation, technology-enhanced intervention, and occupation based neurological recovery.

Contemporary neurorehabilitation literature consistently demonstrates that targeted, repetitive, and engaging practice drives neuroplastic change following neurological injury. Kleim and Jones (2008) established foundational principles of experience-dependent neuroplasticity, including intensity, specificity, repetition, and salience core mechanisms that continue to guide evidence based neurological occupational therapy practice. These principles directly inform the clinical rationale for structured digital assessment and training tools that allow therapists to individualize challenge level, track progress, and promote meaningful engagement.

More recent systematic reviews demonstrate that digital and computer-based cognitive and motor rehabilitation interventions can improve functional outcomes when integrated into therapist-guided care. Laver et al. (2020) found that technology-supported rehabilitation enhances task repetition, motivation, and dosage critical components for facilitating neuroplastic change while remaining most effective when paired with clinician oversight, aligning with occupational therapy’s role in clinical reasoning and occupation centered intervention.

Additionally, occupational therapy specific literature highlights the importance of technology as a facilitator, not a replacement, for participation focused neurological rehabilitation. Dockx et al. (2016) report that technology assisted training improves adherence and engagement in neurorehabilitation programs, reinforcing the value of digital tools that support therapist led goal setting, participation, and outcome measurement.

Together, this body of evidence supports the clinical relevance of teaching occupational therapy practitioners how to evaluate and integrate digital neurorehabilitation tools, such as structured assessments and training platforms, within an occupation-based, neuroplasticity informed framework. This CEU aligns with AOTA’s emphasis on evidence informed practice, clinical reasoning, and innovation that enhances participation and outcomes across neurological populations.
