Why we know this works!

We love this Door Guardian lock because as occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) we work with families who lie awake at night listening for the front door. How do you stop someone with dementia from leaving the house unnoticed? Add a lock that is unfamiliar and takes two steps to open: easy for a caregiver, confusing for someone with memory loss, so the door cannot be opened enough to leave. It installs with the included 3M tape or screws, comes in versions for inswinging and outswinging doors, and needs at least 1/16 inch of space between the door and the frame. This is especially important for households caring for someone with Alzheimer's or another dementia who wanders, day or night. Never rely on it when the person is home alone, since safe exit in an emergency requires a caregiver present, and pair it with the Pressure Mat Alarm with Chime so you know when your loved one approaches the door.
