Stroke Support

Stroke Support

Go to SSEEO Website

SSEEO is a non-profit organization that’s building a community that encourages, supports and guides stroke survivors and their families while connecting them to resources that help them meet the challenges of stroke.

Why we know this works

We love SSEEO because as occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) we watch stroke survivors master their transfers and dressing and still feel like nobody around them truly understands what happened. Where do you find people who get life after stroke? In a stroke-specific community: SSEEO is a non-profit that encourages, supports, and guides survivors and their families, including Stroke Survivor 2 Survivor, a telephone peer support program that connects you with someone who has lived it, plus newsletters, publications, presentations, and learning series. Talking with a peer turns the overwhelming uncertainty of long-term recovery into something other people have already navigated.

This is especially important for survivors newly home from rehab and for spouses and adult children who became caregivers overnight. A support group does not replace medical care or therapy, so keep your rehab team involved; and when you need hands-on caregiver skills, add our Video Training: Transferring Folks with Stroke.
